Located in the central back-alley of Abercrombie Lane, near Australia Square, this small café serving up breakfast, lunch and coffee to busy office workers is a hidden gem. The quality of the food that comes out here is hard to beat but tends to be more on the pricey side for the area. I decided to stop by here for lunch and ordered the Roasted Vegetables Sandwich with their Homemade Chai Latte with Bonsoy.
When I ordered this sandwich, I was given my choice of bread, of which I chose wholemeal. This was a large sandwich and I could see immediately that the filling (mushroom, grilled capsicum, vinaigrette, roasted hazelnut and roasted pumpkin spread, mozzarella) was almost as thick as the bread! This sandwich was satisfying, with delicately balanced flavours and ingredients.
To wash it all down, I had their Homemade Chai Latte. I first noticed this on their display by the till which exhibited their chai mix consisting of many spices and black tea. This chai really hit the spot, with dominant flavours of clove an cardamom coming through.
Service can be a bit slow, especially for the coffees, and seating is very limited. The staff are always delightful and patient so coming here is a pleasure even if you have to wait anywhere between 5-10 minutes in the cold alleyway. There is more seating outside in the alley, too.
1 Abercrombie Lane is great for a satisfying meal or when you just need a hot coffee to pick up your day. Or both.
