“What is a revolving restaurant doing all the way out in the west!?” That’s the question that first came to mind when I got the invite to celebrate the 22nd birthday at Cucina Locale’s, Blacktown’s own revolving restaurant. As my friend, a local, aptly put it: “Who’d want to celebrate views of… K-Mart?”
Being located on the 5th floor of the Worker’s Club in Blacktown means that most of Blacktown’s suburbia is actually below the eye line of onlookers and what you get is a beautiful vista of the Blue Mountains to the east and the city skyline to the southwest. The revolving area itself is small but not cramped.
An interesting canape they served was the scallops with avocado. The smooth taste of the avocado matched the subtlety of the scallop. It was paired well with the 2004 Merlot and 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon on offer.
These oysters were topped with roe that added a burst of saltiness, reminiscent of the sea. In addition to this, the bar was offering banana daiquiris and mojitos as well as a range of beers. Not pictured here were delicious peking duck pancakes that I must have had five of!
According to Sandra, one of the longest serving waitstaff at Cucina Locale, the skills of the kitchen-staff and waitstaff has “grown astronomically” in the year that they have been open. The food photos they have been posting on social media has done wonders to propel them towards their goal of being the Centrepoint Tower of the West. She loves working in hospitality as “it allows you to have your cake and eat it too!”
We would like to thank Cucina Locale for hosting such a fun night and congratulate them on their restaurant’s 22nd year of operation.
