I visited the Malaysian Curry House with a friend of mine. It’s conveniently located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, across the road from World Square on Pitt Street. We were served by the very friendly man you see on the right of this photo; he was all smiles and only too willing to provide recommendations.
Feeling a bit peckish, I ordered the Thali Set which gives you two roti canai (flaky flat bread) and a small rice with three choices of curry. I decided to try the beef rendang, battered eggplant and our host’s recommendation of butter chicken. He was also kind enough to offer a sample of the fish curry on the left.
I wanted to like the food but it was hard considering the curries were colder than I’d like and the batter on the eggplant was soft and stale. The butter chicken was way too sweet. It all just seemed like the curry had been sitting under the food display warmer for a bit too long.
Despite the low $10 price tag and the great service, I find it hard to recommend Malaysian Curry House because of their underwhelming curries. There are definitely better options around the CBD.
