The Missing Piece is a cool, insta-worthy cafe tucked into the back corner of Macquarie Shopping Centre. This little cafe is just one of three run by Love Life Productions, famous for their great coffee and beautifully presented food.
The art style and decor of The Missing Piece is playful and creative. Despite being in the open and surrounded by shops and people rushing by, it’s been able to carve out a little corner for itself where others can stop, meet up with friends or just people-watch. The warm colour palette and generous use of wood and neutral greys also helps with the aesthetic.
Before we had even ordered, we were presented with stunning examples of the cafe’s creative plating. These samples made it clear why people just can’t resist posting photos of their food.
We were delighted to see there was even a few vegan options for us to choose from. For our snack, we decided to try their raw Snickers bar. What came out was an elegantly presented chocolate bar framed by two lines of desiccated coconut and pistachio crumb. On the other side of the bar, providing visual contrast, were frozen raspberries. The bar was not too sweet and full of delicious nuts and definitely did not taste of your usual “raw” health food fare. 😉
To go with our raw Snickers bar, we ordered a soy flat white and soy chai. The chai was a bit heavy on the ginger and cardamom and was otherwise unremarkable. The coffee was quite enjoyable, tasting of toffee and caramel. A great wake-me-up for the afternoon.
Despite the exposed position and open feel of The Missing Piece, it was great to visit a fun cafe that doesn’t take itself or its food too seriously. We would definitely recommend visiting for your next insta post.
